The final workshop in August was such a blast. We had beginning potter/artists sitting right next to participants with years of experience, everyone learning and laughing together. Such a great time! Click on photos below to see complete image:
Scenes from our workshop on August 12-13, 2017. Enjoyed this group of creative souls so much!
I've found that most people feel a bit nervous and unsure at the start the first workshop day. By the end of the second day, everyone is cracking jokes and sharing ideas. The creative energy in the room is palpable.
The Poppy Field Collection of etched stoneware will soon be enroute to Freehand Gallery in Los Angeles for the annual invitational show. Each piece is made by hand and etched with line drawings of poppies, bordered in woodcut-style patterns and glaze. All of the pieces are made by Patricia Griffin in Cambria, Ca.
"Landscape" show opens Saturday, Oct. 15 in LA
I am so honored to be a part of the invitational show to be presented by Freehand Gallery this October. The mixed-media exhibition, which opens with a reception on Oct. 15 at the Los Angeles gallery, is entitled "Landscape: Artists Inspired by the Natural World."
Freehand is owned by Carol Sauvion, who opened the gallery in 1980. Sauvion is creator of "Craft in America," the Peabody Award-winning and the Emmy-nominated series dedicated to exploring craft in our nation. A new episode was released on PBS in September.

I am loving the way the border on this large platter came out. The contrast between the teal glaze and the black/white etched design really makes the woodcut pattern pop. This piece was requested by a collector, and has inspired me to make a whole series of pieces with this design.
Don't these thistles look like they're dancing? The glaze is a rich teal blue, hence the name "Tumblers - Boogie Woogie Blues."
I love the way etching can create movement on a piece. That swirling pattern is a reflection of all the hustle and bustle in the studio this month!
We're getting ready for our Open Studios event in October, which will include two weekends of demonstrations and treats. Stop by the studio and visit with us as we demonstrate and share our excitement about art and art-making.

These are a few of the pieces from a collection of work just shipped out to Human Arts in Ojai, Ca. Big THANK YOU to Hallie and Stan Katz for introducing their visitors to my work earlier this year.
WORKING WITH GALLERIES and FINE CRAFT SHOPS
While horror stories abound about artists and the galleries carrying their work, I have been delighted with my experiences. Human Arts is a great example.
When I was initially contacted about becoming a new artist in the Ojai gallery, I was in the midst of filling holiday orders and couldn't take on any new work. They totally understood, and we talked about plans for the coming year. They were willing to wait for me. We were off to a great start already!
Since then, my work has been well received at Human Arts, and I'm delighted to be shipping off the most recent order.
Because each of my pieces is handmade and one-of-a-kind, galleries like Human Arts order a collection based on style (such as my woodcut designs in this collection). We discuss number of pieces and types of items, often narrowing down glaze colors most popular with their visitors. The goal is to give them a variety of pieces that will form a nice collection and display well.
I'm so grateful for the collaborative partnerships I have today with the galleries and gift shops carrying my work. It's truly a pleasure doing business with them.
Thank you to all who came out for Open Studios this weekend! More fun next weekend as we cap off the event. You can visit me and other studios throughout San Luis Obispo County on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19. I'll be open from 10-5:30 both days. Stop by to see new work, watch pieces being made, enjoy some snacks, and talk about art and pots. Great time!
