I made this bowl three times. (Well, actually, I've made many iterations of this bowl over the years.) But, specifically for this one commission, I made the bowl three times. The first blew up in the kiln because I had rushed the drying. The second one is the bowl at the bottom right (and the one the collector selected). The third was my back-up, just in case the second had firing issues as well.
Whenever my art-making gets difficult, I remind myself of the many times I've pushed through challenges and learned important lessons along the way. Without the failures, I'd never have learned what I needed to know in order to do the next thing.
For me, it's sometimes a slow, deliberate climb. Chug. Chug. Chug. Such a nice view to reach the top... and then the next climb begins!
