Handmade ornament for holiday or year-round nautical whimsy! These make great stocking stuffers and hostess gifts for ocean lovers.
I made this stoneware ornament by hand in my studio in Cambria, Ca. Formed in a star-fish shape, it is etched by hand in a woodcut-style design on one side.
After forming, black underglaze was applied and then etched before the first firing. A clear glaze was applied to the etched side, and the other side left unglazed, showing the texture of the bare clay, and providing a contrast to the glossy etched side.
Each ornament has a hole at the top and is strung with a piece of natural twine, ready for hanging.
